Dental technology is the best it has ever been in history, and engineers and designers are creating even better, more refined tools for surgeons and general practitioners. Research is constantly allowing dentists to provide better and more innovative treatments. At Comprehensive Dentistry, we provide a wide array of cosmetic and general dentistry services using advanced technology and practices to help you enjoy great health and to have a great smile!
At-home teeth whitening kits are inexpensive and convenient, but they are not as safe and effective as being treated in a dentist’s office. In fact, dental teeth whitening is a very simple in-office procedure. The toothpastes, white strips, and rinses that are sold over the counter will not fix discolored, fillings, crowns, or other dental restorations. If you do use them, it can lead to uneven whitening. If you have any bridges, veneers, crowns, or bonds that you want to be whitened, call us to schedule your teeth whitening.
Emergency dentistry is when a situation necessitates a skilled professional to stop bleeding, save a tooth, alleviate extreme pain, or to treat an infection. If you are noticing any of the following symptoms or situations, then you need to call us right away:
If you have braces that have snapped, broken, or are extremely painful, you will need
to contact your orthodontist and let them know that you have an emergency.
The best way to prevent an emergency or costly procedures down the road is to fortify your teeth and gums so that you do not suffer from the cumulative effects of neglect. You may not notice the damage right away from going to bed after eating dessert or drinking alcohol, but years of this behavior eventually erode tooth enamel and creates cavities.
Dental care is about a lot more than having fresh breath and an aesthetically-pleasing smile. It’s also about making an investment in your long-term health. That’s why it needs to be thorough, and why people can’t get away with just brushing without flossing, for example. All of that effort put into brushing goes to waste if there are still food particles stuck between teeth. In fact, a common place for cavities to form is in between teeth, necessitating the two teeth to be fixed.
Daily care at home, however, can strengthen teeth. Our Comprehensive Dentistry care tips are:
Millions of people around the world have dental implants. These surgically-implanted artificial teeth are the preferred type of tooth restoration among patients because they look, feel, and work just like natural teeth. Because they are not made of natural material, they are decay-resistant and will not develop cavities. The tooth is durable, but it’s best not to chew on hard objects, such as pen tips.
Dental implants are attached via a titanium “root” that is drilled into the jaw bone. It looks a lot like a screw because the texture gives it more surface area. This then facilitates the process of osseointegration, which is when bone bonds to the titanium. Once the “root” is in the jawbone, the artificial tooth will be attached via an abutment. This artificial tooth is custom-made to fit inside of your mouth and to match the rest of your teeth.
During your check-up, which you should have done every six months, let your dentist know if you have dry mouth issues, jaw pain, or issues with your head or ears. Some people think dentists just deal with teeth, but dentists are professionals who have an understanding of the body as a system. If it’s a problem outside of the scope of your dentist’s practice, then they will be able to recommend you to someone who can treat you or suggest the type of specialist that you need. For example, pain that is related to a sinus or ear infection, or an irritated trigeminal nerve in the head, may feel like a toothache.
Dentists sometimes see patients who swear that they have a problem with their teeth, but the problem is really something else. But sometimes dental problems cause earaches and other issues. The temporomandibular joints (TMJ) can get out of alignment and cause problems for some patients that result in jaw pain and TMJ Disorder. This is a problem that your dentist can help you with, such as fitting you for a bite guard. Ask us anything. We are here to provide high-quality dentistry services that improve your overall quality of life.
